Welcome back! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, and that you’re ready to get back into the studio.
Exciting things will be happening this semester, and our season culminates with our 2017 performances of…

Come One, Come All!

The Magical Lesson follows three sisters who desperately want to see the circus that has just arrived. Two of the sisters have been misbehaving so badly that their mother forbids them to attend. What they don’t know is that a mysterious sorceress has been planning to teach the two naughty girls a lesson, and casts a spell that allows them to go to the circus with their friends.

It is a wonderful show with many fascinating acts that all of the village children enjoy. However, the two naughty sisters still manage to get into all kinds of mischief and trouble. Will they ever learn their magical lesson?

We are looking forward to presenting this original ballet by Deni Jacks on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27 at the Danville High School Auditorium.

Space Update

In exciting news, The Children’s Ballet has been blessed with the opportunity to occupy the entire studio building as of January! We will initially be using the extra space for additional dressing and waiting areas, office, and storage.

The Nutcracker with HSO

Our Nutcracker with the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra in December 2016 was a great success. Many thanks to all the students, instructors, guest artist Leanna Miller, and the Hendricks Symphony for their time and talents, and special thanks to the Hendricks Community Foundation for a generous grant to purchase costumes. We are so proud of our students!

In Class

Last month in Miss Emily’s class we really dove into The Nutcracker. We danced the divertissements with fans, umbrellas, veils, and flowers; however, our favorite was dancing Mother Ginger with the parachute! We ended our semester by watching the New York City Ballet’s version of The Nutcracker.

Terms

A waltz (German: Walzer; French: Valse, Italian: Valzer, Spanish: Vals, Polish: Walc), probably deriving from German Ländler, is dance music in triple meter often written in time signature 3/4.

Pantomime (pan·to·mime) is dramatic entertainment, originating in Roman mime, in which performers express meaning through gestures accompanied by music.
