Each season, we cast and stage an original ballet written and choreographed especially for that season’s dancers. The large stage production is presented with a host of props and scenery, with multiple opportunities for each dancer to perform. In 2022, we are presenting La Clara De Luna at Danville High School on May 27 and 28.
The Story of La Clara De Luna
A long time ago a moonbeam became entranced by her own lovely light. As she dances she sets her light down for a moment and it’s snatched away as dark shadows turn the lovely white moonbeam dark.
Later, we watch a small Spanish fishing village come alive one morning. The vendors are setting up their goods to sell and villagers are going about their daily routines. This day will prove to be a little out of the ordinary when a traveling band of jesters comes through town, along with dancing senoritas and even a bridal party. When the village dancers come out to celebrate until their fun is cut short after they are told to mend their fishing nets. The young dancers are offered help by a mysterious dark traveler passing through, but only if they agree to help her find her lost moonbeam. They are eager for the help, but leave the dark traveler on her own once the nets are mended. The traveler turns to the ocean breeze to help her find her way.
At the seaside, the traveler meets a band of pirates looking for a parrot. The pirates tell the her she should look in the sea. There we meet all sorts of creatures like mermaids, sharks, jellyfish, lobsters, pearls, and coral who are lovely, but are unable to help find the missing moonbeam. Ultimately, the Sea Goddess appears and tells them the truth of the missing moonbeam.

Support The Children’s Ballet
As Hendricks County’s only non-profit ballet school, we work hard to inspire our community. One of the ways we do this is by staging full-length ballets.
Our performances feature dedicated dancers, beautiful custom costumes, and a colorful stage full of creative set pieces. We depend on community support to provide our students and audiences with memorable experiences.
In 2022, we will present the original ballet La Clara De Luna on May 27 and 28, and family-favorite The Nutcracker for three shows in December.
Our sponsors benefit from exposure in dedicated media campaigns and promotional efforts directed at the large, multi-generational audience expected to attend this year’s performances. We perform at Danville High School where we consistently sell out each show (over 600 seats).
Your support will position you as a patron of the arts and a champion for hard-working young people in our community.
You may choose from four levels of sponsorship or purchase advertising in a performance program.
Would you consider supporting our students through sponsorship this year?
Information For Dancers And Parents
Attendance: We consider each member of our cast to be a vital and important part of our performance experience. Because we take roles very seriously, we ask that you and your child take your potential participation just as seriously. All cast members are expected to commit to attending all scheduled rehearsals and performances. Three excused absences from rehearsals (not including tech week) are permitted, but must be previously communicated to Miss Emily. Any prolonged or uncommunicated absences will result in forfeiture of a student’s role.
Illness: TCB’s existing illness policy (found online or in the student handbook) applies also to rehearsals and performances of La Clara De Luna. Absences due to illness are not counted towards a student’s excused absences, but the student is expected to communicate all absences to Miss Emily and review choreography on his/her own (see preparedness clause below).
Attitude: We expect each and every cast member to fully commit to giving their best effort when they share studio and stage. This commitment includes being kind and respectful to all teachers, directors, and fellow cast mates.
Preparedness: Each student is expected to come to rehearsal with knowledge (or specific questions) of choreography that has been taught (particularly at intermediate and advanced levels). Limited rehearsal time means it is important to review and know choreography, so rehearsal can be used for cleaning choreography and creating performance/character details.
Costume: Please avoid eating or drinking (except water) in costumes. All costumes and headpieces are to be cared for, hung up properly when not in use, and all costumes and parts returned after each rehearsal and performance.
Tights: clean, pink, footed (or convertible) tights; no rips, runs, holes
Shoes: pink ballet shoes (remove ribbons and diamonds); pointe shoes if applicable
Hair: neat, tidy, high bun. Please secure with a hairnet and bobby pins and secure flyaways with hairspray.
