Policy Reminders
Tuition:
Families are asked to keep their financial information up to date. Tuition is run automatically on the first business day of each month. There is a $15 monthly tuition discount for each additional student from the same family. The tuition discount for boys is 50% per month.
Dress Code:
The Children’s Ballet’s dress code is designed to encourage cooperation and discipline among its students. Instructors are also able to see the body’s form to ensure that the dancer is moving safely and correctly. A dancer should focus on developing technique and artistry without distraction of loose or cumbersome clothing. Ballet shoes and leotards are available to borrow from the studio — feel free to ask your instructor.
Shop our online store to order uniforms and have them shipped to you.
>> Hair is to be worn in a bun (or securely pulled back from face if student has short hair). Three reasons! 1) safety. Turning requires spotting; if a dancer is spotting his/her hair will whip them in the face and possibly cut their eye. 2) distraction. Dancers who do not have hair secured are temped to play with it, take it up, down, re-fix over and over through class. Instead of focused on what the teacher is saying, they are playing with their hair. 3) discipline. Part of the study of ballet is respect for the disciplines that come with it. As a child begins to study ballet, discipline is one of our foundational elements as they grow and mature.
Spring Performance
La Clara De Luna
We are so excited to be back on the stage this spring with La Clara de Luna! By now your dancer should have received their parts and we hope they are so excited! The story goes…
Prologue: A long time ago, a Moonbeam became entranced by her own lovely light. As she dances, she sets her light down for just a moment, and it is snatched away without the Moonbeam’s knowledge. Dark shadows appear and turn the lovely white Moonbeam dark.
Story: In a Spanish fishing village, morning has broken. Vendors set up their goods to sell, and street sweepers get the town ready for the day. Soon, kindling-gatherers join in their early morning regimen, and the whole village starts to bustle. The kindling-gatherers, a traveling band of jesters, senoritas, village dancers, and even a bridal party arrive to celebrate the start of a brand new day. When the young village dancers are told to mend the fishing nets, they are upset that their fun must end. These village children find help when a mysterious dark traveler offers to mend the nets if they would help her find her missing moonbeam. But once the nets are mended, to the dark traveler’s dismay, the children renege on their promise. The ocean breeze helps the moonbeam find her way.
Our adventure moves to the sea. The first characters are pirates in search of parrots. When asked if they know where the lost moonbeam might be, the pirates shrug “out in the sea somewhere,” but ask the Dark Moonbeam and helpers if they’ve seen their missing parrot. Life at sea becomes entertaining as mermaids, jellyfish, lobsters, coral reefs, and pearls all try to aid in the search for the moonbeam. Ultimately, the Sea Goddess appears, and the truth of the missing moonbeam is revealed: Sea Creatures have taken it! The moonbeam is eventually returned, the Traveler turns back into a lovely moonbeam and returns to the sky and to her cluster of beautiful, white moonbeams.
