The 33rd season of The Children’s Ballet in numbers: 108 students, 14 girls on pointe, 12 classes 6 days per week, 5 teachers, and 1 senior dancer.

As we close out 2020, and the first semester of the 20/21 season, we want to pause and thank each of our families and students for being part of The Children’s Ballet! We are so proud of the dedication and determination of our dancers through the challenges of this year.

We are also incredibly grateful for the generosity of so many in our community. Our sponsors, anonymous donors, and families who have given above and beyond their monthly tuition have been instrumental in keeping the ballet school going.

Stay tuned for more information about how we plan to end our season and show off the amazing progress of our dancers! Until then, stay healthy and keep dancing. Classes begin again January 18.

A Royal Visit :: 2019

And the countdown is on!! Our students have been working so hard, and everything is coming together. Double check your Performance Guide for all you need to know. Please be sure read this information thoroughly, and let us know if you have any questions. We appreciate your prompt timeliness to all rehearsals and call times as that helps our week and performance run smoothly.

  • Tickets are on sale now! Choose the Golden Ticket (one in each performance) and you will receive a free DVD of A Royal Visit.
  • On performance day, take and share pictures with us: #ARV2019.
  • Order your Memories (photos, DVDs, flower bouquets, and student tributes) soon. Take advantage of early discounts on photos through May 14.

PERFORMANCE WEEK INFORMATION

No regular classes during the week of May 20. All rehearsals and performances take place at Danville Community High School. When you arrive at the school, enter through the front doors, head to the Auditorium, find your class’s row and wait to be called on stage. Please no food or drinks in the Auditorium. You may eat and drink in the Cafeteria located next to the Auditorium.

Check your Performance Guide for your class’s specific rehearsal times on Monday and Tuesday. Students will be free to leave once they have finished on stage and are dismissed by Miss Emily. Wednesday is a full cast run-through of the performance (beginning with the Grand Finale) and will take place from 5:00–8:00 pm.

Dancers must remain seated with their class when not on stage. Please be a respectful audience! Parents are responsible for ensuring their dancer stays with their class during Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday rehearsals.

Thursday is dress rehearsal (hair, makeup, costumes) from 5:00–8:00 pm. Photos will also be taken at this time. When you arrive at the high school for the dress rehearsal and performances, please drop off your dancer in costume and makeup at the green room (the Choir Room off the north hallway across from the Auditorium). Dancers who are not on stage during the dress rehearsal or performance will remain in the green room with entertainment and supervision. Only volunteers are allowed in the green room.

Costumes: Costumes will be sent home during the last week of classes. Dancers will not need to wear their costumes until dress rehearsal. Dancers should wear regular class attire during all other rehearsals. A lot of work has gone into selecting and fitting these costumes and headpieces, so please take good care of them!

  • Unless specified otherwise by Miss Emily:
  • Tights – pink, footed tights (clean and no holes!)
  • Hair – tidy bun (hairnet, bobby pins, hairspray)
  • Shoes – pink ballet shoes
  • No black leotards under costumes

Building our Future is a capital campaign to launch the next 30 years of growth at The Children’s Ballet.

  • We know kids today have so many choices for after-school activities. That’s why we are so grateful for the hundreds of families who have chosen to spend time in our studio over the years. Why are we seeing a second generation of dancers return to The Children’s Ballet? Here are a few things that set us apart from other dance schools:
  • We offer students a non-competitive, family-oriented studio with quality ballet training and a focus on not only technique, but also on the well-being of the students and their personal growth.
    As a nonprofit school, we emphasize accessible dance education, welcoming students of all ages, experiences, and backgrounds, while keeping our costs low.
  • Students who join The Children’s Ballet, including very young students, receive a classical ballet education, learning about classical music, composers, French ballet terminology, and how dance can tell a story without words.

A Note from Miss Emily:

Thank you so much for being part of The Children’s Ballet family. Our 2018-19 was a great year full of growth – both in our studio and our students! Dance is everything to me and teaching our students is an incredible privilege I do not take lightly.

Students – thank you for your hard work, focus, and enthusiasm in class and rehearsals; you are such a blessing to me! I’ve seen so much improvement this year, and I’m so proud of you all – such talented dancers and performers, but more importantly, you all are
wonderful people.

To our founder, Miss Deni – thank you for giving me the gift of dance and creating The Children’s Ballet.
Parents – thank you for supporting and encouraging your students, as well as the studio; we would not be able to survive without you.

Anne – thank you for all your incredible work both administratively and artistically; it is often unseen by most, but always vital to our studio; we would be nowhere without your vision.

Teachers – thank you for sharing your expertise and investing in our students and always going above and beyond.

To our board members – thank you for all your energy, creativity, time, and support in this performance and all our future projects.

To my family – thank you for supporting my calling and this studio with your time and finances (and understanding why you hardly see me after Christmas!)

In my 20 (!) years with The Children’s Ballet, I’ve learned this particular dance community is a magical place. I look forward to sharing our community and our art with Hendricks County in one of my favorite ballets, A Royal Visit, in next season’s Nutcracker, and in the years to come.
